Dogs have been living alongside humans for 15,000 to 20,000 years, and so it is only natural that they should have a close relationship with our language, but how close is this relationship exactly?
Researchers have been looking into this very question, discovering a group of 41 ‘Gifted Word Learner’ dogs who had all spontaneously learned the names of many of their toys, with one dog even able to identify 86 toys by their names! While this is an extreme example, dogs are pretty intelligent mammals able to cultivate multiple forms of intelligence.
